I’m sure you’ve tried reheating carbonara before but maybe you didn’t get the results you wanted.
So, I thought I’d share my top five methods for reheating carbonara.
Carbonara is a classic Italian pasta dish made with bacon, eggs, cheese, and cream.
It’s usually served cold but if you want to warm it up, there are lots of ways to do it.
In this blogpost I’ll explain you exactly how to reheat carbonara using different methods.
A note on my experiment
I tried five different methods to reheat carbonara sauce. These included heating the sauce in a pan, using a microwave oven, using a stovetop burner, heating the sauce in a slow cooker, and heating the sauce in a convection oven.
Reheating carbonara in a bain-marie
This method was the easiest to implement. I heated the sauce in a bain-marié a double boiler until it reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I removed the sauce from the bain-mariés and placed it into a bowl. I added the cheese and pasta to the sauce and stirred well. How to reheat carbonara in a bain-marie:
I used a bain-maries to reheat my carbonara. I heated the sauce until it reached 165 degrees F. Then I removed the pan from the oven and put it into a bowl. Next, I added the cheese and noodles to the sauce and stirred. After adding the eggs, I returned the mixture to the bain-maries and cooked for another 5 min. Once the pasta had cooked, I served it right away.
Reheating carbonara on the stove (low heat)
You could try heating the sauce in a skillet on low heat. This way, you can stir the pasta while it cooks.
How to reheat carbonara on the stove (low heat):
Reheat carbonara on the stove using a skillet. Heat the pan on medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon olive oil and saute the garlic until fragrant. Add the cream and bring to a simmer. Stir in the cheese and season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop in the spaghetti and cook according to package directions. Drain and return to the pot. Pour the sauce over the pasta and toss well. Serve immediately.

To reheat carbonara in the microwave, place the cooked pasta into a bowl. Add 1/2 cup of hot tap water and stir well. Cover with plastic wrap and microwave on high for 2 minutes. Just follow these steps: 1 Heat up the pan and pour 1/2 cup of olive oil into it. 2 Add 2 chopped garlic cloves and sautee until golden. 3 Then add 1 pound of pancetta bacon. 4 Sautee the pancetta until crispy. 5 Remove from heat and set aside. 6 In a bowl, whisk 4 eggs and season with salt and pepper. 7 Pour half of the egg mixture into the pan. 8 Sprinkle half of the Parmesan cheese and half of the bacon bits on top. 9 Cover the pan and let the frittata cook for about 10 minutes. 10 Uncover the pan and sprinkle the remaining Parmesan cheese and bacon bits on top. Simply mix together 1 cup of ricotta cheese, 3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese, and 1 tablespoon of freshly minced parsley. Spread the mixture evenly onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Top with cooked spaghetti noodles and bake at 350 degrees F for 15–20 minutes.
