They are tougher cuts of meat and are better suited for grilling and barbecuing. They are also good candidates for ground beef recipes.

Is a beef shoulder roast a good cut of meat?
Shredding refers to the process where meat fibers are pulled apart into long strands. Shredding happens during cooking. In order to shred a piece of meat, you need to apply pressure to the meat while it cooks. For example, if you were to put a steak on a grill, you would not see any shreds because the meat is cooked evenly throughout. However, if you were to sear the steak on a hot pan, you would notice that the outside was charred and the inside was still raw. When you sear the steak, the outside gets char marks and the inside remains uncooked. This is when you get shreds.
